Mentoring
Mentoring is a supportive, professional relationship where I helps guide, advise, and support a less experienced production Manger or someone hoping to make the move into Production Management . It involves sharing knowledge, skills, and insights to help the emerging Production Manager grow, develop, and navigate challenges in their career and/or for a specific project. We would have regular check-ins thought out the process and discussions tailored to the emerging Production Managers needs and goals.
The check in sessions can be in person over a coffee or a walk or online and would ordinarily be at least 1 hour per week for the duration of the Emerging Production Managers engagement of work
Mentoring can take different forms, including:
Emerging or early career Production Manager Mentoring - this can be through the company or the individual.
Production Management Consultation directly with a company or organise to establish their production management requirements.
Inernational Touring Advice and Consultation - directly with company or Production Manager.
Following the mentor/mentee relationship each party would complete an evaluation form where I would make suggestions on how to continue to develop skills and a career in Production Mangement.
Emerging or early career Production Manager Mentoring
As a mentor Production Manager, I would work closely with the appointed Emerging Production Managers to support their development and ensure the quality of their work on the project. This includes helping them explore and build their careers by setting goals, sharing resources, and providing structured guidance.
Key aspects of this mentorship include:
Facilitating weekly check-ins with the Emerging Production Manager.
Identifying key areas for support in collaboration with the Production Manager and Producer.
Liaising with the Producer to address any access needs during the mentorship period.
Providing end-of-project feedback and suggestions for the Production Managers next steps and career progression.
Holding regular weekly meetings from initial engagement to project completion.
Helping them recognize and strengthen their weaknesses while playing to their strengths.
Establishing clear communication expectations.
Defining specific goals for the mentoring relationship.
Outlining skill areas to be developed or enhanced through this partnership.
By focusing on these areas, the mentorship aims to provide emerging Production Managers with the confidence, skills, and insight needed to grow within the industry.
Production Management Consultation
As a consultant, I would work closely with the company’s management team—including the producer, general manager, and director—to identify gaps in processes and skill sets, offering guidance on how to move forward to ensure a successful, safe, and well-run production.
This support could take various forms, such as:
Taking on smaller tasks to ease the workload.
Providing industry insight, resources, and key contacts.
Mentoring a team member to develop their skills and take on more Production Management responsibilities.
Additionally, I collaborate with a Technical Manager who can offer expertise on technical setups, requirements, and equipment. Together, we can produce detailed ground and lighting plans to support the production’s technical needs.
